Hi Guys, I am back with my health tips once again this time i would like to break a big secret about Popeye strength. Everyone will know him as a cartoon character for his well known strength after eating spinach. There are ways to break his secret of power, just read this article keenly and observe. Eat smart if only Popeye could get his hands on the highly nutritive Amaranth (thandukeerai) rather than spinach. Let we speak about Green story; in nature nearly every plant has some shade of green. The chlorophyll in plants, which is green, converts the heat energy from sunlight to plant energy. By eating plants, animals and humans convert the energy they get into what their bodies need for life and survival. Obviously green, leafy veggies are very important to us. Yet, not many of us eat greens happily. I have always had a feeling that a frustrated parent must create the comic strip,’ Popeye’. It is true that greens are a good source of iron and the sailor grew extraordinarily strong as soon as he ate the spinach! This must have encourged kids to become like popeye. Nice and strong with bulging muscles. Why spinach? Again, my reasning is that people from western countries did not have the variety of greens (Keerai) that we in India use. Spinach might have been the only greens used for a long time. Just look at the wealth of greens that we have at our doorstep. Even in these days of supermarkets, the fresh green basket brought by the ‘Keeraikari’ is still prevalent in some areas. Siru Keerai, Avasi Keerai, murunga Keerai, Pasalai keerai(spinach) and paruppu keerai are just few of the many varieties available. Each variety can be used for a different and specific type of preparation. Added to these are certain greens, which are used for favoring, as garnishes and in other types. Now let we see regarding their importance. Now, what exactly is the nutritive importance of these greens in our diet? The protein content is quite high and its quality is good. They are mostly rich sources of carotene (Vitamin A), vitamin C and vitamin B, especially folic acid. Greens are good sources of calcium and iron. They can be cooked in many, many ways. They can be added to pulses, to cereals, to meats and also cooked independently. I am sure you love the methi paranthas, the spinach soup, the mint rice and the keerai masiel, to name a few.So finally guys’ l would like to say “Greens improve the color, Greens improve the taste, Greens improve the nutrition, Greens improve you health and Greens improve YOU!! Okay see you in next post.
